This video shows how to sew a flat felled seam. This type of seam is sturdy and durable and has no visible seam allowance. There are several ways to sew a flat felled seam, this method involves pre-pressing a folded edge on one side of the fabric.

You place the unfolded piece of fabric under the folded edge of the other piece, right sides together. You sew the seam, then press the seam over to encase the raw edge inside. Finish the flat felled seam with a topstitch and (optionall) an edgestitch.

Top tip: you can also sew a flat felled seam on the outside of your garment by reversing the tutorial! Often used on raincoats to help prevent water seeping through the seams.
