Introducing Raine Emery
Raine Emery, a beloved cosplay influencer and pattern designer, has joined the Simplicity range with a captivating series of sewing patterns, perfect for Halloween and other costuming occasions.

“I remember as far back as high school that I consistently went to fabric stores to look at what new patterns were out — especially Simplicity Patterns — and to excitedly wonder what costumes and cosplays I could create from them.
While in college for my fashion design degree, I still sat in those chairs, looking through the pattern books, dreaming about having patterns of my own so the designs I made could inspire fellow fantasy-loving creatives to sew. And… here we are! This dream has come true, and I am so grateful for all your support. And I am beyond eager to see what these patterns inspire you to make! Go and make magic, you lovely creatives.”
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of creating your own costume, especially when it comes to blending fantasy, cosplay, and personal style. The Raine Emery collection is inspired by a world of enchantresses, fairies, spirits, and empowered characters, each design steeped in fantasy and rich with intricate details.
“I have a degree in Fashion Design with a certificate in costuming, but I have been sewing since 2012. Since graduating in 2018, I have worked in the costuming industry for almost two years while taking more college courses. I am now focusing on projects that I feel inspired to create while also keeping up with classes on the side. This includes my Simplicity pattern range!”

Her blue ballgown, S3029, is pure enchantment, with billowing tulle evoking the mystique of legendary fairy tales. The gown features a corset with back lacing, lace appliqué, ribbon rosettes, and tulle overskirts that float gracefully as you move. It’s the kind of gown that turns heads, whether you’re at a cosplay convention, Halloween party, or simply living your best life.
“They don’t have to just be one style, you can personalise these designs to suit your vision — swap out colours, add embellishments, or adjust the silhouette to make it truly yours. It’s all about creativity and customisation.”
Her sewing patterns invite us to tell our own stories, one stitch at a time. Raine’s designs have captivated followers with her blending of fantasy and fashion into wearable art.
Raine is also here to provide essential support as every pattern features a video sewalong! Watch her Sew-Along for S3029 here.
For anyone who loves playing with shapes and textures, Raine’s ballgowns are a dream.
“I love shapes and the contrast of shapes. By making my own costumes, I’m in the driver’s seat and I get to tell the story. I use fabrics and colours and shapes and textures to tell the story.”

Inspired by water, her multi-hued gown, S3028, flows as gracefully as its source of inspiration. The off-the-shoulder top paired with a corset and poet sleeves gives the look an ethereal vibe, while the mermaid-style skirt elongates the figure with elegant draping and a whimsical godet train. The added collar, adorned with floral embellishments, is the cherry on top, making it perfect for any mystical character you want to embody. She goes into construction details in her recent video for pattern S3028.

For those of us who like a little bit of mischief, Raine’s devilish sprite costume, S3063, is not to be missed. The crimson corset and ballgown combination cloaked in black lace, along with sheer black wings, makes for a glam, edgy look. And get this — she even included pockets in the skirt! As any sewist knows, that’s a major win.
“What I liked about my patterns and the designs that I made is that they can be altered in any way. They don’t have to just be one style. Turn S3028 or 3063 into a fairy princess dress. You could just remove the wings and make it your own — add flowers onto the bottom, add flowers to the corset, and there you go.”
If you’re dreaming of making enchanted costumes this year, Raine Emery’s collection is the perfect place to start. Whether you’re creating a look for cosplay, a fantasy costume party, or just to let your imagination run wild, these sewing patterns give you everything you need to make something truly magical.
