This video demonstrates how to sew a flat dart. These are the most common way to add shaping for example at the bust, waist, elbow and more. You’ll encounter this technique in most projects that use woven fabrics and occasionally in projects for knit/stretch fabric.
Follow our top tips to ensure sewing success:
Tip #1: Be sure to transfer all pattern markings to the fabric.
Tip #2: Pin through both dart lines to ensure the dart is straight.
Tip #3: Begin sewing at the widest point of the dart.
Tip #4: Press the dart flat in the direction the pattern indicates.
