Sewing Bee 2022 Week 6 Patterns & Techniques

It’s Music week on The Great British Sewing Bee 2022. Episode 6 was all about Mod Rockers, Country Music and Bowie-inspired Glam Rock looks!

PARKA COATS

GBSB Week 6 featured parka jackets made famous by 1960s Mods and again with the Brit Pop scene of Oasis.

S9052 is the ultimate parka jacket with everything you saw on the show: Funnel neck, drawstring waist, fishtail hem and snap fasteners!

S8843 is a great alternative with easier pockets and shorter hem length.

MADE TO MEASURE CHALLENGE

This week the challenge was to make a Bowie-inspired look so think 70s glam rock style, jumpsuits, tailoring and bright colours. We’ve found the matching patterns or great lookalikes for you to recreate the style on the show.

Annie created a suit inspired dress using our M7997 pattern! This double breasted style has different hem styles to choose from. Annie added feathers to the cuffs for added glam which you could easily replicate at home.

Brogan made a stunning dress with puff sleeves… she really loves puff sleeves! Her dress looked very much like V9328 with it’s gathered sleeve heads and princess seamed v neck bodice. She added fringe to the under arm seam as a jazzy trim! Ours has a fuller skirt for extra drama.

Debra’s Bowie’s look was one of several blue brocade outfits. She made a funnel neck jacket with feather trim and cute coordinating skirt. The jacket details were hard to see but we got the impression it looked similar to B6497.

Gill went for full on glitter with her deep v full skirted dress. She amped up the volume with colourful petticoats underneath! You could get a similar look from V9343. Or we love the

Christian’s outfit wowed everyone but I’m not sure many people will be rushing out to sew a one legged jumpsuit – if you’re keen, take a look at S8286 or our other cosplay patterns. The many panels mean you can mix colours and prints for a bold look.

Man Yee created a boxy tailored jacket in a bold tiger print that really turned heads. She made a notched collar and jetted pockets. It looks so much like M7818, our unisex sewing pattern! Paired with a tulle skirt you can recreate the whole look.

Last but not least Angela used our coat pattern S8769 to make a dramatic corduroy coat inspired by the movie Labyrinth. She used black contrast panels and trim to create an eye-catching look.
