Sew your own jeans! Perfect jeans sewing patterns
Jeans are a great project for those looking for a slightly longer make, that will challenge your skills and give you a garment that is perfectly fitted to your measurements!
There are so many styles of jeans to pick from, full of interesting construction techniques! Most jeans sewing patterns includes enjoyable top-stitching and hardware installation. You can add decorative pocket stitching, then work out any aggression hammering in the button and rivets. Plus, you’ll take pride in discovering how fly front zippers are created to sew your own polished version. Watch our video guide to fly front zippers. And don’t forget about those important belt loops – small but fiddly, they make a pair of jeans look complete. We’ve got a video guide for belt loops too.
Why not pick a Mimi G or Know Me pattern like S8516 or ME2052 which have video sewalongs for extra support at each step. You’ll learn how to find the perfect denim fabric, use the correct needles and pick the perfect size. Mimi G is one of our indie sewing pattern collabs and she created the Know Me pattern line which helps members of the sewing community share their patterns with a wider audience.
If fitting is your biggest concern, you can get the best possible fit with the Palmer / Pletsch method and their custom jean patterns; there are helpful guides to picking your size, testing the fit at every step and how to make adjustments to make the best possible garment. Fit experts, Palmer / Pletsch are another of our indie sewing pattern designer collaborations.
If you’re extremely lucky and have two sewing machines, you can have one threaded up with top-stitching thread, and another with regular thread for construction meaning you won’t have to keep switching threads for each round of top-stitching. If you can borrow a machine from a family member or friend, we’d definitely recommend it. Nervous about creating wobbly top-stitching on your first pair? Choose a matching thread colour to take the pressure off! Our VIP members have access to a Topstitching masterclass as part of their subscription.
We have so many styles of jeans so whether you need a skinny jean pattern, flares, patchwork jeans, barrel and wide leg jeans. And the range includes plus size sewing patterns with women’s sizing.
