Bomber Jacket Patterns

Originally worn by pilots in the military, bomber jackets have evolved into a versatile fashion staple, known for their casual yet stylish appearance. Surplus military jackets were widely available in post-war times and Hollywood films featuring tough-guy characters like Marlon Brando and James Dean further contributed to their popularity. Now they are worn within many fashion movements, including punk, hip-hop, and streetwear.

Also known as “flight jackets” they bear a resemblance to American varsity athletic jacket and can be made in a range of fabrics like leather, scuba, silky and quilted fabrics. They feature a zippered front, ribbed cuffs and hem, and are usually collarless.

Sometimes you may see them made with raglan sleeves, and include welt pockets. It can be fun to embellish with sew on or iron on patches in the style of military insignia or varsity lettering.
