How To Make A Warmer

Materials Needed

 

• 1/4 yd. of 58/60″ wide fleece fabric
• 4 yds. of Novelty Fold-Over Braid 1-5/8″ wide to be folded Or 3/4″ wide pre-folded

Instructions

 

Step 1: Cut a strip of fleece 7″ wide across the full width of the fleece fabric. Trim off each selvage end evenly.

Step 2: If using flat braid: Fold braid so that the underside is slightly wider than the top edge, with the decoration showing on the top layer; press lightly.

Step 3: For either type of braid: The underside is slightly wider so that when it is stitched in place both edges are sure to be caught in the stitching.

Step 4: Encase the entire outer edge of warmer in the fold-over braid. Start at one corner, slip the raw edge of the fabric inside the two layers of the braid. At each corner, come all the way to the edge with the braid. Turn the braid around the corner and pin in place. Fold braid diagonally on both sides of the corner. At the last corner, turn end of braid under diagonally over the braid already pinned in place.

Step 5: Baste fold-over braid in place close to the edge, catching in the underside.Machine-stitch as basted.Hand sew the braid together at the corners invisibly, if necessary. Remove basting. Press lightly.
