Style trends for Spring 2016

Spring 2016 has finally sprung, and it’s probably the best season of the year for style trends, as we cast off our winter wardrobes and look to versatile, practical garments capable of handling the unpredictable conditions of the season.

Come rain or shine, in Spring you need clothes that look great in the bright sunlight but can cope with the sudden downpours and cold gusts too, so here’s our pick of what’s in for the months ahead.

  1. Floral Pants

Floral pants are IN for Spring 2016 in a big way, and while the boldest trends are often short-lived, this could be the exception because floral prints have never really gone away.

The joy of sewing patterns is that you can use whatever material you like – and that of course means that any pants pattern can be used with floral fabrics to stay on trend this season.

Burda sewing patterns B7966 and B8087 together give you a great selection of pants patterns – B7966 has three lengths with elasticated or threaded waistbands, and B8087 has full-length and short pants, any of which would be bang on-trend in floral fabrics.

  1. Tunics

Tunics are comfortable, versatile and perfect for Spring’s unpredictable weather – vary the length to make a top or a dress, with side slits to keep you cool on warmer days.

Simplicity 8094 is an on-trend Project Runway tunic pattern with shorts and leggings, everything you need for a complete Spring outfit.

For younger girls, Simplicity Jiffy 8104 is a reversible dress with a front tie, and is assembled from just three sewing pattern pieces – an easy to make wrap that lets your little fashionista stay in style too.

  1. Steampunk

Finally, make a real statement this Spring with our new steampunk costume pattern from Theresa LaQuey, Simplicity 8114.

It’s a trend that’s gone from niche to mainstream over several years, and this season is the ideal time to indulge your extravagant side with some practical but visually lavish steampunk-inspired designs.
