Pattern Favourites: Shorts and Trousers
With the holidays coming up we’re thinking of summery me-made outfits! Something that is always good to have is a nice pair of trousers and a good pair of shorts. Sewing these are not as hard as you might think, just keep an eye out for beginner friendly patterns and for example; something with an elasticated waist would be easy to fit. We’ve gathered some of our favourite trouser and shorts patterns so you can get inspired to sew yourself some me-made bottoms this summer!
These shorts are gorgeous! This design doesn’t have a waistband and is fitted with darts at the front and back, this will make it easy to sew without too many fiddly bits. If you’re looking for a challenge then you can add a lace overlay to make it just that extra special.
With this pattern you get 3 length options to suit your style. This loose fitted design is casual and oh so comfortable! We especially love the drawstring waistband.
Wide legged trousers that look like a skirt are bang on trend at the moment! You can choose from midi length culottes like pictured here and shorts. This beautiful design by Mimi G also comes with a stunning jacket and a crop top pattern.
We love the optional tie belt that comes with this pattern, it would be a great way to do some colour blocking. Imagine this design in a cotton linen blend or a nice drapey crepe, so stylish! We can imagine wearing these all summer long!
A slim fitted pair of trousers can be stylish and comfortable! This design actually has an elasticated waist so it’s easy to fit around the waist and comfortable to wear. It comes with 3 length options including really nice shorts.
This is a vintage 1970’s reproduction of the original pattern! These super jiffy wrap tie shorts and trousers are made of only one pattern piece and it has stitching lines for petite, small or medium sizes in the center seam. A very quick make!
Make these shorts in a heavier weight fabric to show of the awesome features of the pattern. The pattern offers a fitted high waisted option with big box pleats on the front and sailor style shorts with a drop front and 3 buttons on each side.
These cargo style trousers are so cool! What’s not to love about extra pockets! This pattern is really versatile with lots of different length options and different ways to finish the hem.
Don’t forget to share your latest makes with us on social media using the hashtags #simplicitybyme or #mccallsbyme. We can’t wait to see what you’ve been making. There are prizes to be won each month too!
