Pattern favourites: quick and easy sewing patterns
In our dreams we would have all the time in the world to sew and make ourselves a completely handmade wardrobe. It would look fabulous with the most amazing pieces that all looked like they were made by fashion designers. In reality we are happy with any time that we get to spend behind our sewing machine! Sometimes that means only an hour per week or less.
Quick and easy sewing patterns are perfect if you only have a few minutes per sewing session and you want to have a new garment pretty quickly or if you only have one afternoon and you want something new to wear the next day. We’ve picked some fantastic patterns that are quick and easy to sew, and not to forget; easy to fit!
Pattern: Simplicity 8124.
This cute dress can also be made in a top and romper. Gathering your fabric will take up most of the time, but you won’t have to do any fitting which makes this pattern stress free to sew!
Pattern: McCall’s M6994.
A nice and easy skirt that you could whip up in no time! It’s got an elasticated waist and no fiddly closures like zippers or buttons. The pattern comes with 3 hemline variations and 2 different lengths. Do you like the top as well? Scroll down for more information.
Pattern: McCall’s M6963.
This lovely top is especially designed for knitted fabrics, which makes it quick to sew and easy to fit. With three sleeve variations and two different necklines this will be the perfect pattern to build up your handmade wardrobe with some pretty basics.
Pattern: New Look 6461.
You can create a capsule wardrobe with just this one pattern. It includes a tank top, a tunic, a dress and trousers. This loose fitting style will be easy to fit, and when sewn in soft and stretchy knit fabric you’ll never want to take it off!
Pattern: Vogue V9190.
This little shrug is perfect if you need to layer up! It is easy to sew and it can be closed with a little drawstring or you could just leave all fastenings. No difficult fitting is involved, you just need to decide on the sleeve length.
Pattern: Simplicity 1355.
Are you looking for a jumpsuit that doesn’t involve a lot of fitting, tricky sewing techniques, and fiddly fasteners? This pattern is perfect! It is loose fitting with a drawstring to cinch it in at your waist and you’ll be able to get in and out of it without any closures.
Pattern: Butterick B3460.
Skirt patterns don’t get easier than this! With an elastic waist and straight pattern pieces this will be a super quick sew. The pattern also comes with lots of variations including long trousers, so it’s another great pattern to build your own capsule wardrobe.
Pattern: New Look 6816.
Wide legged trousers and tops with statement sleeves are bang on trend right now, so if you are looking for fashionable and stylish this might be the quick sew that you are looking for!
Pattern: Kwik Sew K4172.
This pullover tent dress makes for a quick sew without much need to fit. The design is simple but oh so effective. The fullness of the skirt is amazing and the back looks super cute. Perfect to just sew in a couple of hours and pop on right after you finished!
