New sewing pattern styles
You may have spotted over the last few weeks that there has been new sewing pattern collections from Simplicity and Vogue® Patterns. There are some great options to create outfits as we plan ahead for Winter. Here are some of our favourites.
The daylight hours are getting less and the cool nights are drawing in. September is certainly the time in the UK when we start to think less about making dresses and more about separates. Here are some of our recent favourite new additions.
Vogue® Patterns 9330
There is nothing better than a chunky roll neck pullover. Easy to fit, cosy to wear, it’s a winner! Try it out in fleece, Ponte knit or a wool jersey.
We really like these plus size wide leg trousers, which would look great in a Ponte Knit or heavier weight linen for Winter. You can pair this with the cropped blouse and save the tie front version to try out next summer or make it up in a silk for evening wear.
Pattern Hacking Collection
We are excited to share this with you, it’s one of the new “pattern hacking” collection, where you can get really creative. The pattern is a basic raglan sleeve top but you can add a flounce, ruffles, peplum and split back opening.
The next in our “pattern hacking” collection is the caftan, which can be hacked into four different versions. This include a long caftan dress, tunic with tie back, cropped blouse (perfect for pairing within high waisted skinny jeans or pencil skirt) and a fringed kimono. There are lots of fabric options for these but rayon, chambray or linen would look perfect.
It won’t be long until the holidays and that means parties! It’s never too early to think about that special outfit you could sew up for a family gathering, work party or night out with friends. In the new Vogue® Patterns collection we have a few great suggestions, which would work for all these occasions.
Vogue® Patterns 1593
At first sight this dress is a classic fitted shift style dress but if you look closer at the line drawing you’ll see that it has a full length two-way zip up the front and panels that give great shaping to the bodice and front skirt. Sew up in a classic black Ponte or wool crepe.
Simplicity Mimi G 8639
Nothing quite says party like this close fitting strappy number from design collaboration with Mimi G! Figure flattering with a boo front slit and ruching detail, this dress is a knock out.
Vogue® Patterns 1595
This is one of our favourite dresses from the new collection, it has easy to fit and flattering kimono style sleeves with double darts across the bodice. The skirt is fitted at the back with two darts and there is also a kick pleat for ease of movement. Sew this up in a Ponte knit or wool jersey for classic understated chic.
Vogue® Patterns 1594
If you are looking for something with a bit more va-va-voom then why not try this statement flounce sleeve dress. It has a simple bust dart and invisible zipper with full circle skirt. It would look beautiful in a luxurious sequin fabric or jacquard.
Vogue® Patterns 9328
For the ultimate challenge, we think this Vogue® Patterns 9328 dress would be a show stopper. There might be some fitting to be done to get the bodice sitting right and you would certainly want to sew slow around the back bodice opening but it’s a beauty. We think something lightweight like lace, rayon or crepe would look stunning. Also it has pockets!
