Interview with Sewing Bee’s Rumana and Jamie
It’s been a few weeks since the marvellous final episode of series 5 of the Great British Sewing Bee aired. We still miss watching it and wish it was on the telly every single week of the year!
We would like to share the interview we had prior to this series with Jamie and Rumana who you might know from the Sewing Bee series 4.

We are eagerly awaiting series 5 of the GBSB after it not being on our screens for a couple of years. Will you be watching the new series and what are you most looking forward to seeing?
Indeed I will be watching the new series. Having been a competitor I know, only too well, what the new batch of sewers will be feeling. I really hope for series 5 they revert back to earlier series and produce more practical information for the viewers. Whilst the competition aspect is great fun, the GBSB has inspired so many people to take up (or return) to sewing but the last couple of series lacked the ‘how-to/techniques’ for the viewer.
Since you were on the GBSB show, have you got more involved in the sewing community?
I’ve certainly kept involved in the sewing community and regularly blog about my efforts as well as sharing through social media.
What are your favourite patterns to sew? What’s on your cutting table right now or what sewing plans do you have for 2019?
For me it has to be menswear patterns and in particular, more technical ‘tailored’ pieces. My cutting table always has something on it but for 2019 it will be put to good use as I focus on creating some sewing patterns of my own.

We are eagerly awaiting series 5 of the GBSB after it not being on our screens for a couple of years. Will you be watching the new series and what are you most looking forward to seeing?
Yes of course! It actually starts the night before I’m due to go back to work after maternity leave- so it’s the perfect pick-me-up, giving me something to look forward to! My favourite challenge to watch has always been the alteration challenge so I can’t wait to see what they get faced with. Funnily enough, its the funnest to watch but the hardest challenge to be part of…
Since you were on the GBSB show, have you got more involved in the sewing community?
Definitely- I’m not sure anyone knew who I was beforehand, and I definitely didn’t know as many sewing people before the show. It’s also helped me discover so many great brands, pattern companies and sadly for my cupboards- more fabric stores! I’ve even made it to a few events and meet ups which I love- it’s something I would’ve been too shy to join in with before the show.
What are your favourite patterns to sew? What’s on your cutting table right now or what sewing plans do you have for 2019?
I have a few tried and tested patterns which I know I’ll come back to: the Named clothing Kielo wrap dress and the drapey knit dress from a GBSB book. I’ve actually got one of those cut and ready to stitch! I’ve got ambitious plans for 2019- including a lace dress to wear for a family wedding and I’ve finally bought some wool for the Rumana Coat!
