Sewing Community Challenges

Are you looking for ideas to make your next handmade outfit? There are lots of sewing community challenges that you can follow on social media. It’s a great way to see what fabrics look like on different garments and also to discover new sewing patterns.

Sew Photo Hop

Starting again this month is Sew Photo Hop, a sewing challenge organised by sewing blogger Rachel Pinheiro. Rachel has a sewing blog called House of Pinheiro, where she shares her latest makes and reviews of exhibitions and patterns. The challenge is everyday throughout September and each day has a theme to follow. Post your picture for each theme using the hashtag #sewphotohop. Search for the hashtag on Instagram to see all previous posts and catch up on September so far.

2018 Make Nine

Throughout 2018 is the year long challenge 2018 Make Nine. The challenge is to plan your makes for what you want to make thought the year. You can share these makes and discover other people’s plans with the hashtag #2018makennine. This challenge was organised by Rochelle from the sewing blog Lucky Lucille. It’s a great way to plan what you need to make to fill the gaps in your wardrobe. Also you can start it at anytime and revise your plans throughout the year.

This new hashtag was started by Judith Rosalind on Instagram. It’s a great way to find other sewists and see what they are making. There are already over 1000 images that have been shared with this hashtag. It’s also a great space to talk about patterns with Judith posting different topics each week.
