All VIEWS - The One Hour, Express Yourself Window Box Valance is the "canvas" that you creatively adorn to add your own signature touch. We show you how to make a variety of contrasting fabric bands and provide ideas for finishing your creation with unique button combinations, fun braids and flashy trimmings.
The depth of the Box Valance is 18" (46cm) and can be made for windows 28-70" (71-178cm) wide. The sides of the Valance have a kick pleat that provides dimension at both ends. Mounting is simple - the Valance is attached to a 1" X 3" (2.5cm X 7.5cm) pine board using a staple gun.
Here's the scoop on the details added for each View:
VIEW A - The mini pom-pom trim added to the Box Valance's bottom edge adds a little whimsy to this bold fabric. We then fused a 1-1/2" (3.8cm) wide grograin ribbon along the bottom edge to repeat the contrast green on the Valance. We only added one row, but you may want to add more!
VIEW B - This View adds a Blocked Panel Roman Shade beneath the Box Valance. The Shade is color blocked with two solid colors to coordinate with the floral Valance. A 1-1/2" (3.8cm) wide grograin ribbon highlights both the Valance and the Shade. Decorative buttons were added to the ribbons, but you can express yourself in any way you like. The back of the Shade features rows of plastic rings threaded with Roman shade cording, enabling the treatment to be raised and lowered. Your fabric width determines the width of the Shade you can make as there is no seaming - see Fabric Requirement Chart for size range. Shade and Valance are easily stapled to a 1" X 3" (2.5cm X 7.5cm) pine mounting board.
VIEW C - We layered a decorative Hooked-on Topper over the Box Valance. Two trumpets highlight the Topper and buttons cleverly cover the staples which secure the Topper to the Valance. This Topper can be made for windows 30-70" (76-178cm) wide.
VIEW D - In this View, we not only added a Hooked-on Topper, but a pair of Stationary Panels enhances the look of this window. A contrast fabric band added to the Panels' inner edges is 3" wide (7.5 cm) wide and coordinates with the Box Valance. The Panels are mounted on a simple 1" (2.5 cm) wide curtain rod and fits beneath the Box Valance and Topper.
FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:
ALL VIEWS: Light to mid-weight decorator fabrics such as cotton and cotton blends, linens, jacquards, or other similar weaves work well.
VIEW D BANDED PANELS: Coordinating fabric for banding is not suitable for one-way or obvious prints.
LINING SUGGESTIONS:
ALL VIEWS: Select a white or off-white drapery lining fabric. Sun resistant or water resistant linings are recommended.
VIEWS C or D: The Topper is contrast lined.
PURCHASE LINING SAME WIDTH AS FACE FABRIC, IF POSSIBLE.
